Schoharie Creek.... Just Let Your Soul Glo!

Walking down to the Schoharie Creek you cant help but notice the impact of the flood of 2011. The entire county far and wide has signs everywhere of the devastation that occured.

Trees down all along the rivers edge.

Gorged out shore lines.

Beautful small mouth bass.....

And of course....

The view is beautiful as always..

Resiliency is what can give a creek its soul or completely diminish it. I have found no other body of  fresh water so mysterious, illusive, or stubborn. We have taken (or given) many kicks and jabs to this fishery and she holds on strong and determined; shaking her fist at pollution, weather, waste water, improper agriculature, soil erosion, etc.

Oh yeah, the smallmouth are back this year.... alot of the little guys are dead due to the flood and their parents are pissed and ready for a fight.

  1. Wow, those are nice smallies! Here in Colorado, we had flooding last spring due to massive mountain melt runoff. A lot of trout were displaced....cutts and brookies found down below their normal altitude, etc. Resiliency is key, you're so right. Glad I found your blog...and thanks for finding mine. =) Cheers.

  2. Where I live we have plenty of nice small mouth fishing as well as chain pickerel and other warm water, plus I am at a half way point between the Adirondacks and the Catskills. Never caught a cutt or cuttbow before, cant wait to though.
